Modern rugs have become essential elements in shaping contemporary living spaces. Characterized by their clean lines, bold geometric patterns, and vivd use of color, these carpets merge beautiful design aesthetics with functionality. Woven in countries like India and Pakistan, modern rugs make a distinct statement in any space. For designer area rugs, shop our Alma Collection, Elysian Collection or Sienna Collection. These pieces can also be custom made, if you spot a carpet you like but can’t find the right size.
How to Choose the Right Modern Rug
Begin by considering the proportions of your room and furniture arrangement. Opt for a larger 8x10, 9x12 or 10x14 rug to anchor open spaces, while a smaller 4x6, 5x8 or 6x9 rug can define cozy nooks. 8x10 and 9x12 rugs are most often used in bedrooms and living rooms, whereas smaller pieces often find themselves in entrances and bathrooms. Runner rugs are ideal for hallways and kitchens. Another important consideration is the interplay of colors — choose a palette that complements or contrasts with your existing decor. Our collection ranges from neutral area rugs made of ivory, cream and grey to bold and colorful carpets featuring pink, green and blue.
Best Selling Modern Rugs
Mystique Collection: Botanical designs and transitional patterns are popular in our Mystique Collection. These area rugs pair well with a modern farmhouse interior, as they showcase a neutral toned field. Each carpet is one-of-a-kind and features a Turkish knot pile that is hand sheared and double-washed.
Loreto Collection: The Loreto collection’s shaded palette evokes an abstractly painted landscape that exudes luxury and natural beauty. Knotted by hand in India from hand-spun wool, this modern collection features tonal hues and softly gradated striations that are enhanced by the yarns’ natural opacity and sheen.
Eden Flokati Collection: A thin wooly pile and all-around singular color define our Eden Flokati collection. True to the ancient art of kilim weaving, Turkish artisans craft these flatweaves by hand with thick wool that imbues the pile with natural tones and a traditional matte finish.
Kathmandu Collection: For earth-toned carpets woven in Nepal, turn to our Kathmandu collection. These pieces range from modern checkered patterns to more traditional florals inspired from Persian designs. The muted palette in this collection features primarily brown, beige, burgundy and black.
How to Maintain a Modern Rug?
Collectors of handmade rugs understand that proper care and regular upkeep preserves and even appreciates the value of their investment. While wool rugs do an incredible job at hiding dirt, these pieces will over time undergo wear and as such accumulate abrasive dirt that if left to fester can damage the rug’s fibers and foundation. This type of damage cannot be undone, and as more and more dirt penetrate the fibers it leads to a loss of color and vibrancy making the rug appear dull. Rather than wait till your rug looks dirty to bring it in for a clean, we recommend you incorporate a few at-home care practices that will help extend the life and sheen of your rug. Regular vacuuming of your area rug will help to eliminate dirt and particles. Firstly, be sure to turn the beater bar off as the aggressive motorized brush can break the surface fibers of your rug. Next, vacuum sideways across the width of the rug and across the direction of the pile. At all costs avoid vacuuming over the fringe as rotating brushes will quickly tear the fringe. If your rug has a thin foundation with a pile, we recommend using an upholstery attachment and vacuuming in the direction of the pile only. Don’t be aggressive and apply too much pressure. The goal is to keep the buildup of dust and grit to a minimum. In general, you want to vacuum the top of your rug every 1 to 2 weeks depending on the traffic they are getting and their location in your home. Every other month, vacuum the backside of the rug as this will help to keep moth and bug activity to a minimum.
